Antique French rugs and carpets have history of 300 years back, starting in 1600s by importing Ottoman rugs to royal palaces of kings and dukes. The renaissance artists were also affected by the oriental style of these rugs.
French rugs are known famously as Aubusson and Savonnerie designs. The Aubusson is a flat woven rug with a medallion and a pastel colors. Unlike the Aubusson, the Savonnerie features a thicker pile although it similarly shares the soft colors.
The carpets produced in Aubusson and Savonnerie still popular elegant enough to continue tradition of fine rug produced in France.
